I’m having trouble with my school list. I’m an older, non-trad, re-applicant with a kind of strange application. Since my application in 2022 I did a DIY post-bac while working full time and spent more time volunteering and shadowing. My main issue is that my research is the strength of my application but the schools that care about research will likely not even look at my application due to my undergrad GPA. I have a strong narrative of wanting to go into primary care to treat chronic illness. I’m a WA resident. Random X factor, worked as a mountain guide before clinical research. Any insight or help would be much appreciated. I have FAP so 20 apps will be free.

Stats
  • Undergrad GPA: ~3.1 overall, BCPM: 2.9. Hardship of chronic illness, which has since become ostensibly cured.
  • Post-bac (all BCPM): 4.0, 21 credits over 1.5 years
  • MCAT, had to retake due to expiration. Pretty disappointed with my retake as all my FLs were between 516-518 and I ended up getting my worst CARS and BB scores on the real exam retake (and oddly the best CP score).
    • 2021: 513 (127, 129, 129, 128)
    • 2024: 512 (129, 127, 128, 128)
Research and work experience
  • Strongest part of my app, 5+ years clinical research coordinator in infectious disease and family medicine
    • ID, worked on respiratory viruses
    • FM, work on improving substance use care in primary care
  • Multiple publications in Nature (x2), Science (3x), Cell (x2), JAMA, Immunity, Science Advances, Science Immunology, etc.
  • 3500+ citations, ~25 publications and ~5 abstracts
  • Multiple poster presentations
  • Lots of experience working directly with patients, performing blood draws, etc.
Shadowing
  • 90+ hours outpatient primary care (50 hrs), inpatient (20hrs), specialists
Volunteering
  • 400 hrs clinical volunteering
  • 150 hours volunteering for research on underserved populations
  • 100 hours low barrier homeless shelter
  • 50 hours leading physician interest group for a national organization
  • 50 hours summer camps for native american youth
